We flew just over two hours from Sydney to Hamilton Island…. then took a 45 minute boat ride to Hayman in the Great Barrier Reef.
Arriving at Hayman Island.
A fantastic aerial shot…. thanks to the hotel website!
Not my photo either!
Gorgeous view from our room!
We called this guy “Leonard”. The island has an amazing amount of birds, ducks, and other fun creatures like wallabies and flying foxes (bats).
Leonard in the pool.
We kind of felt like we were in Jurassic Park (without the dinosaurs). The trees were awesome, large and lush. The variety of birds was incredible and we just loved it!
The boys had a ton of fun in this spot…. there was basketball, tennis, a putting green, volleyball and other stuff to keep them busy.
Matt & Sam getting ready for their dive in Blue Pearl Bay.
… and off they go! Matt & Sam are taking a two day course next week in Sydney to receive their “Open Water” license! Right now they have their scuba license which lets them dive up to 12m. With the Open Water course, they can go up to 18m.
A spectacular place for diving and snorkeling. Matt & Sam saw so much more then us but they did not have a camera with them. They came face to face with “Priscilla”, a giant Napolean Wrasse. I saw the fish too but it kept swimming away from me!
Dave & Josh easing their way in….
This was super cool. When the tide was out there was a massive area to explore but it filled up really quickly a few hours later….at high tide it was so completely different. If you look closely you can see Sam wandering out there. This was his favourite spot to explore.
There goes Sam! He was on the hunt for sting rays and there were tons of them. Small reef sharks too.
The tide is coming in! Poor Sam did have a bit of a problem one day when the tide came in…. read my blog post to find out what happened.
Dad and his boys.
Mom and her boys.
Ha! Matt & Sam barely peeking out over their menus!
Beautiful breakfast spot.
A seagull and a cockatoo. The cockatoos are much nicer! The seagulls would swipe right down to grab your food.
Our seaplane adventure!
A spectacular day flying to Whitehaven Beach in the Whitsundays. The beach is rated one of the best beaches in the world. The sand consists of 98% pure silica which gives it a bright white color.
What happens with three boys when on a very quiet beach for a few hours.
The way the sand and water swirl together is stunning!
You are not supposed to feed the birds… but Leonard was too cute. Josh could not resist and gave him one fry.
Spotted Eagle Ray.
Okay this was crazy and fun! One night Sam and I went on a wallaby tour – looking for wallabies with lights. So great! We saw a ton. We also saw possums, large green spiders and strange birds. On the way back we happened to see this small black tipped reef shark on shore. Some guys had just caught it and were putting it back. It was awesome to see them wrestle with this thing.
Can you spot the stingray?
Silly underwater photos testing out our new camera.
Josh and I feel like we are forever running… training for the Manitoba half-marathon in June.
Boys having fun in the gym.
Sam following this 6 month old swan.
Flying foxes! These mega bats are the largest in Australia. It was hard to capture pictures of them flying but they are huge!! And there were so many… and they were loud!
Sam on Langford Beach with coral.
Gorgeous under the water!
Love the hair Josh! Leaving Hayman to fly back to Sydney.
